The Images of Enterprise Collection comprises paintings individually commissioned by a consortium of businesses and corporate enterprises assembled between 1990 and 1999. Having first identified each as being fine examples of their particular sector of Corporate Scotland they were then invited to become a consortium  member.  I hoped the project would demonstrate my appreciation for the enterprise, inventiveness and vitality of industrial and commercial Scotland; the stuff which adds strength to this nation.

The companies I invited were selected for having 1. a good labour relationship policy in place  2. was successful in terms of innovative and economic achievement 3. had environmental awareness as part of their forward planning 4. were good representatives of their particular corporate sector.

The commission involved my research of each company including site visits and meetings with the principals and staff members. The paintings measured 30 x 20 ins with a few larger. They were executed in raw watercolour onto “Truecard”, provided by Tullis Russell for this project. A descriptive legend accompanied each painting (unfortunately, some have since been lost) By 1999 the Images of Enterprise Collection featured a wide spectrum of Scottish business and enterprise. The original paintings were displayed on the consortium-member’s premises or presented to retiring executives, and in many instances they were reproduced as corporate gift prints.

In addition to the above, the paintings were to have served as illustrations for a book to be written by the members of the Images of Enterprise Consortium. However this project was left unfinished because, during that decade, several of the companies featured in the Collection were acquired by other concerns whilst others fell by the wayside. However now, many years later, the Images of Enterprise Collection can be regarded as an interesting relic of a corporate moment in time.
